The fifth year of an ode to the jazz legend (and native Washingtonian) Duke Ellington will kick off this Friday in the District. The Duke Ellington Jazz Festival celebrates the lifeblood of New Orleans, running from June 5th-15th. Fantastic and diverse events over the ten days will celebrate the rich jazz history here in DC; ranging from local, national and international artists, "Jazz in the 'Hoods" series, "Jazz'n Families Fun Days," June 5th & 6th at the Phillips Collection, and culminating in a grand finale at the Kennedy Center on June 15th. The festival not only seeks to further jazz education, but to enhance Washington as a vibrant cultural music capitol.
Even if you are not a full fledged jazz aficionado, the festival is fun for all ranges of music and history lovers; check it out!
